What is ICT?

ICT---- Information and communications technology

“ICT is not just about technology – it’s about the ways in which information and technology are used to deliver better services and enhance trust and confidence in government.”-ICT. The Government of NZ

ICT linking to children

‘ICT for Social Welfare’ is a practical toolkit for government and community sector agencies. There is a strong focus on the importance of professionals and policy-makers engaging with children and young people in social welfare through information and communication technologies. ICT can be a powerful, ‘virtual’ child-friendly mechanism to complement ‘actual’ spatial planning and public policy-making to promote child-friendly cities and communities. Other themes include internet safety concerns, role of information intermediaries and children and democracy, participation and ICT.- Lever, McGimpsey & Geoghegan

Growing up in an ICT-rich environment means that children need to have opportunities to experience and develop skills in its use that will help them make the most of adult life. Contrary to what we often think, ICT isn't simply about computers but includes anything that requires the input of instructions to produce specific outcomes. That's your answering machine, mobile phone, DVD player, washing machine, traffic lights and even speed cameras.-The School Run
